Empowering voices and building connections— Speech Therapy transforms lives!
Often mistaken as simply fixing pronunciation, Speech Therapy is a dynamic, evidence-based field that helps individuals communicate, connect, and thrive. Led by licensed Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Speech Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), it supports speech, language, social skills, feeding, and more—impacting both confidence and quality of life.
Though the history of Speech Therapy is long and goes back to the earliest of times, the modern sense of the field starts at the turn of the century with “Speech Correctionists.” A ragtag grouping of individuals from: average “Joes” who worked to correct their own stuttering, governesses, educators, and various medical professionals all coming with approaches aiding in speech as varied as their backgrounds. Today, the field has grown into a multidisciplinary practice rooted in linguistics, neuroscience, and education.
Speech therapists work with children experiencing speech delays, language disorders, stuttering, autism, social communication challenges, and feeding or swallowing difficulties. Therapy is individualized and play-based, designed to meet each child’s unique needs—from saying first words to using communication devices.
Speech Therapy is more than just learning to talk—it’s about unlocking potential, nurturing connection, and celebrating every milestone. This May, for National Speech, Language, and Hearing Month, we honor the power of communication and the incredible professionals who help individuals of all ages find their voice and thank you for allowing us to be part of your very own therapy journey, unlocking and guiding you and your loved ones to that same very potential and connection!

Pro Tips & Talking Tricks
|
May is Speech-Language-Hearing Month! This month's Pro Tip and Talking Trick was inspired by an activity from Ms. Cassidy and Ms. Michal.
We've all been there—asking, “What did you do today? How was your day?”—only to get a non-answer like, “Fine, nothing!” These questions are often too broad, which leads to unfulfilling responses.
It’s not that your loved one doesn’t want to share details, but the flood of memories, thoughts, and the nuanced decision of what exactly to say can be overwhelming. And then, having to translate that into speech? That’s a big ask. The child must recall events, evaluate their experiences, and express feelings—multiple cognitive-linguistic steps all at once. That’s a lot to mentally organize, even for adults!
Instead of asking, “What did you do today?”, try this activity:
📸 Photo-Based Storytelling Activity
Print and collect 5–10 photos that represent parts of your child’s day.
Use "WH" questions (who, what, where, when...) alongside the photographs to gently prompt responses.
Examples of Story Starters:
“I went to __________.” (while holding a picture of school)
“I was with __________.” (a picture of their teacher or best friend)
“We did __________.” (with a picture of the classroom)
“I liked this part because __________!”
These softly structured “who,” “what,” “where,” and “why” questions, paired with photos, can help your child organize their thoughts, feelings, and words. They also reduce the pressure of answering broad questions and can spark meaningful language!
