|
Speech and Occupational Therapy don't stop when a session ends—they're meant to come to life in the real world. Social groups and enrichment summer camps provide children with a fun, supportive environment where our clients can naturally practice the communication, social, and self-regulation skills they're learning in therapy. Through cooperative games, imaginative play, crafts, movement activities, and shared experiences, children have opportunities to initiate conversations, take turns, navigate friendships, and build confidence in ways that feel meaningful and exciting. Research consistently shows that children develop social communication skills most effectively when they can practice them with peers in natural, motivating environments while being supported by professionals.

Summer Camps and Social Group Events
For many families, one of the biggest concerns is helping their child feel comfortable making friends and navigating social situations. At Language Essentials, our camps are intentionally designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and understanding space where every child can explore peer interactions at their own pace while feeling successful and supported. Our team thoughtfully incorporates opportunities to strengthen communication, emotional regulation, flexibility, executive functioning, and sensory processing throughout each activity. The result is so much more than a week of summer fun—it's a chance for children to build meaningful friendships, discover new confidence, and carry the skills they practice with us into everyday life at home, at school, and within their community.
At Language Essentials, our summer camp wasn't simply about crafts and games—it was about creating experiences with purpose. Every activity was thoughtfully chosen to foster connection, and help children discover that communication can be joyful, friendships can feel safe, and trying something new can lead to meaningful growth. Watching our campers support one another, celebrate successes, and leave each day with bigger smiles and greater confidence reminded us that some of the most important learning happens through play, connection, and shared experiences.

Pro Tips & Talking Tricks
|
Our Puffy Paint Ice Cream Cone craft was a camper favorite! This fun, hands-on activity encourages creativity while strengthening fine motor skills through painting, squeezing, gluing, and decorating. Children also practice following directions, sequencing, making choices, expanding vocabulary, and describing colors, textures, and their creations—making it a sweet way to support both speech and occupational therapy skills while celebrating summer!

SUPPLIES |

| Scissors |
Plain foam shaving cream |
Small bowl for mixing |
| Cardboard ice cream cone cutout (not too thick) |
Food coloring |
Medium or large paintbrush |
| White school glue |
Brown marker or crayon (to draw waffle cone lines) |
Decorative "toppings" (pom-poms, glitter, sequins, etc.) |
| Wax paper |
Safe place to dry your creation |
Have fun! |

Directions:
1) Cut out your cardboard ice cream cone and scoop(s). Make sure it's not too thick or it will be too difficult for kids (or adults) to cut easily.
2) Draw crisscross waffle cone lines on the cone with a brown marker or crayon.
3) In a small bowl, mix equal parts white glue and foam shaving cream until fluffy.
4) Add a few drops of food coloring and stir to create your favorite "ice cream" color.
5) Lay out your wax paper. Use a paintbrush to spread the puffy paint onto the ice cream scoop in fluffy globby dabs, you can even add drips if you like!
6) While the paint is still wet, decorate with your favorite toppings like sprinkles, pom-poms, glitter, or sequins.
7) Let your masterpiece dry completely (roughly 24 hours) in a safe space before handling. Once dry, it should be very easy to pull off the wax paper to play or display!

Back-to-School Scheduling Reminders 📚
As the school year approaches, schedules shift, and life returns to the hustle and bustle of the school year, after-school therapy appointments fill quickly! Please keep us informed of any school schedule changes, vacations, travel plans, or other scheduling conflicts as soon as possible to help us reserve your preferred appointment times and avoid missed session fees or the loss of your therapy slot.
Reminder, time slots fill fast at the start of the school year. Plan with us now for less headache later.

We wanted to thank everyone who made Summer Camp possible: Eric for planning, implementing, and leading. Dani for being lead camp counselor and gross motor activity guru. Ms. Megan and Ms. Cassidy for spending the week helping our campers.
